Dear John is a beautiful story all around. Like other books by Nicholas Sparks, there is no happy ending for John and Savannah.
When I first started reading Dear John, I had low expectations. I saw the movie before I read the book, and I honestly did not like the movie. I hated how it ended. I didn't like how some things just didn't add up in the movie, so of course I had to go out and buy the book to see what really happened and what was going on in the heads of the characters.
The book was an easy read. It is told in John's point of view and is split into three parts. I found myself immersed in John's life. I fell a little bit in love with John. When he was hurting, I found myself wishing I could comfort him. Unlike the movie, the book gave me insight to why Savannah did what she did, and I didn't hate her like I did in the second half of the movie. Even though Savannah and John do not end up together (as you find out in the first pages of the book), I found this to be one of the best love stories I've ever read. I loved the decision that John made in the end! Although it did not give him his happy ending, it made the person he loves happy.
One of the things I did not like were the 'war' scenes. Maybe it is just me, but I find reading about war boring. Those few 'war' scenes had me putting down the book for a while. Other than that, a great read that I would recommend to anyone!

I just read this last week I believe it was, and I really liked it :) I also didn't like the movie, but only because it had weird changes compared to the book.

I have never read anything by Nicholas Sparks but I do have Dear John sitting on my Kindle waiting for me to have time to read it. I haven't seen the movie. I think I'll wait for the video. BTW, now you have 6 followers.
ReplyDeleteThere are war scenes? Agh! I don't like them much either...I'm reading it right now, actually (YAY!). I'm about 45 pages into it and I'm liking it so far. :D
